According to the daily AQI bulletin released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's daily average air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 202.
When the AQI level is between 201-300, it is classified in the 'poor' category.
The sub-committee of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) held a meeting to assess the air quality scenario of Delhi-NCR.
It was decided to take necessary steps under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) to improve air quality.
Average Air Quality Index (AQI):
AQI is a scale to measure pollution.
Through this, the amount of CO2, ozone, NO2, PM 2.5 (particulate matter) and PM 10 pollutants present in the air is measured.
It is expressed in readings ranging from 0 to 500.
The higher the amount of pollutant in the air, the higher the AQI level.
PM 2.5:
PM (Particulate Matter) are microscopic or nano-particles spread in the air.
Particles with a diameter less than 2.5 micrometers (about 3% of the diameter of a human hair) are called PM 2.5.
They can be volatile, semi-volatile, non-volatile, liquid or solid.
Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP):
Launched - Year 2017
Implemented -By Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM)
It is an emergency response plan
Applies when air quality deteriorates in Delhi and NCR
GRAP is divided into four stages
Stage 1- Air Quality Index (AQI) between 201 to 300
