Borthekera is a medicinal fruit found in Assam. Its scientific name is Garcinia Pedunculata.
In Assam, its dried pieces are used to prepare dishes like fish curry, as well as a home remedy for stomach disorders.
According to scientists at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Science and Technology, this fruit reduces cardiac hypertrophy indicators, oxidative stress and inflammation of the heart.
It is known to have therapeutic properties such as anti-inflammatory, anthelmintic, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-diabetic, hypolipidemic, nephroprotective and neuroprotective activity.
