Cycas pectinata is an evergreen, palm-like plant belonging to the Cycadaceae family. In this there is direct fertilization of unfertilized seeds in the open air by pollination.
It is one of the most ancient Gymnosperms, probably originating at the end of the Carboniferous period 300–325 million years ago and reaching its greatest diversity during the Jurassic–Cretaceous period.
It is listed as Vulnerable on the Red List the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The genetic information contained in Cycas pectinata makes it valuable for scientific research and conservation.
Recent studies have shown that the existence of Cycas pectinata in the Himalayan country is highly threatened by collection as an ornamental plant and habitat destruction.
