Kharai camel is a rare species of camel mainly found in the Kutch region of Gujarat. They take mangrove trees as their food.
It is well adapted to the saline desert environment. They are known for their ability to swim.
They are considered a unique ecotonal species as they survive in dry land ecosystem as well as in coastal ecosystem.
According to a recent report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, the destruction of mangrove forests in the Kutch region is threatening their existence.
