Mammatus clouds are a type of unusual and distinctive clouds that are formed as a series of bulges from the base of the clouds.
Its shape can vary from a raised shape to a long tube hanging from the upper level of the cloud.
Due to the formation from the turbulence in large-sized cumulus clouds Mammatus clouds generate thunderstorms.
Due to this, there is also a possibility of hailstorm, heavy rain and lightning in the surrounding areas. However, they can also form on other types of clouds that do not cause precipitation.
