Why in news?

Exercise Khanjar-XII is being conducted in Kyrgyzstan from 10 March to 23 March 2025.

Key Points:

  • Exercise Khanjar-XII is a joint military exercise between India and Kyrgyzstan.
  • The exercise provides an opportunity to strengthen defence ties between India and Kyrgyzstan.
  • It reflects the commitment of both countries to promote peace, stability and security in the region.

Participation:

  • The Indian contingent is being represented by soldiers of the Para Regiment (Special Forces).
  • The Kyrgyz contingent is being represented by the Kyrgyz Scorpion Brigade.

Objective of the exercise:

  • To strengthen defence cooperation between the armies of the two countries.
  • To work together to combat common challenges such as terrorism and extremism.
  • To promote mutual understanding and cooperation between the armies of the two countries.

History:

  • The exercise started in 2011.
  • The last edition of the exercise was held in India in January 2024.
