Grand inauguration of Khelo India Youth Games 2025 in Bihar

Why in the news?

• Khelo India Youth Games 2025 started with a colourful and grand ceremony in Patna, Bihar.

About Khelo India Youth Games 2025:

• It is being hosted by Bihar.
• This is the first time that Bihar has got a chance to host this prestigious event.
• This sports festival will run from 5 May 2025 to 15 May 2025.
• This time the theme of Khelo India Youth Games is - "Khel se Desh, Khel se Vikas"
• In this edition, there will be competitions in more than 25 sports,
  • These include athletics, hockey, wrestling, kabaddi, table tennis, shooting, swimming etc.
• More than 10,000 players, coaches and staff from 28 states and 8 union territories are participating. 
• Special focus has been given to encourage participation of women athletes.

Organizing Body:

• The event is being organized by the Ministry of Youth Welfare and Sports and Khelo India Mission, Government of India.
• Collaborating Bodies: Government of Bihar, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and National Sports Federations.

Khelo India Youth Games:

• The Khelo India program was announced in the year 2017.
• It started with the first Khelo India School Games on 1 February 2018 in New Delhi.
• In the year 2018, this competition was known as Khelo India School Games.
• From the year 2019, its name was changed to Khelo India Youth Games, so that school and college level players can also participate in it.
