Khelo India University Games 2024 (5th Edition)

Why in News?

• Rajasthan will host the 5th edition of Khelo India University Games 2024 in November 2025.

Key Points:

• This was announced on 25 June 2025 by Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya through a social media post.
• Rajasthan will host the Khelo India University Games for the first time.
• Rajasthan now joins the list of states that have hosted the Khelo India University Games, such as – Odisha, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and seven states of Northeast India (Assam, Sikkim, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Nagaland)
• The games are organised by a university in the state.
• The University of Rajasthan and Poornima University, both based in Jaipur, will jointly host the games.
• University students under the age of 25 are eligible to participate in the Khelo India University Games.
• Around 4000 athletes from over 200 Indian universities are expected to participate in the fifth edition.

  Khelo India program

• Khelo India University Games are part of the 'Khelo India' program which was launched by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in 2017.
• The program aims to strengthen and revive the sports culture in India.
• The program seeks to bring out sporting talents that can win medals for India in international sports in the future.
• The Ministry, in collaboration with the Indian Olympic Association and state governments, organises four major national level events under Khelo India:
  • Khelo India Youth Games (for players under 19 years of age)
  • Khelo India University Games (for players under 25 years of age)
  • Khelo India Winter Games
  • Khelo India Para Games
