Why in the news?

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah launched the BHARATPOL portal at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.


BHARATPOL Portal:

  • This portal has been developed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
  • It will enable Indian law enforcement agencies to share real-time information.
  • This portal will provide quick assistance in investigating international crimes such as cyber crime, financial crime, human trafficking, and drug trafficking.
  • This portal will streamline processing of all requests for international assistance through INTERPOL.
  • This will enable quick access to international police cooperation.
  • This portal will become a transformational tool for field-level police officers.
  • It will increase their efficiency in dealing with crimes and security challenges.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI):

  • It is India's premier investigating agency.
  • It investigates organized crime, corruption, and other complex cases.
  • This agency works under the Central Government.
  • It was established in 1941 as "Special Police Establishment (SPE)".
  • In 1963, it was renamed as "Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)".
  • It is formed under the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946.
  • Its headquarters is located in New Delhi.

INTERPOL (International Criminal Police Organization):

  • It is the largest international police organization in the world.
  • Objective: To promote cooperation and coordination in criminal matters among member countries.
  • Establishment: Year 1923
  • Headquarters: Lyon, France
