
- Event: The Conference of Parties (CoPs) for the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions (BRS Conventions) was held in Geneva (Switzerland) between 28 April and 9 May 2025.
- Theme:- 'Make the invisible visible: Good management of chemicals and waste'
- Function:- In this meeting, representatives of different countries came together for international environmental talks to discuss new measures and strategies for the management of chemicals and waste.

- This conference is held every two years.
- Objective: To advance global action on hazardous chemicals and waste management.
- India is a party to all these three conventions.
About the three conventions
Basel Convention
- It was adopted in Switzerland in 1989. It came into force in 1992. Its objective is to reduce the generation of hazardous waste and promote its environmentally sound management.
- A regulatory system has been established for permissible cross-border waste transfers, while restricting movement that is not in accordance with environmental principles.
Rotterdam Convention on Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides
Adopted in 1998 at Rotterdam, Netherlands; entered into force in 2004. It promotes shared responsibility and cooperation in the international trade of hazardous chemicals to protect health and the environment.
Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)
- Adopted in 2001 at Stockholm, Sweden; entered into force in 2004. It is a global treaty to protect human health and the environment from POPs.
- Objective: To eliminate hazardous POPs. eliminating these, supporting transition to safer alternatives, targeting additional POPs for action, etc.
