New name of Commonwealth Games Federation

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has announced a change in its name to 'Commonwealth Sport'.

  • The announcement was made on the occasion of Commonwealth Day (March 10).
  • The Commonwealth Games Federation will be known as 'Commonwealth Sport'.
  • The name Commonwealth Sport represents its purpose in a more impressive, strong and unified way.
    • However, legally the name of the organization will remain 'Commonwealth Games Federation'.
  • Commonwealth Sport officially launched the 'Commonwealth Sport King's Baton Relay' for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF):

  • It is an international organization responsible for organizing and managing the Commonwealth Games.
  • It was founded in 1930, and its headquarters is located in London, England.

Commonwealth Games:

  • First held in 1930 in Hamilton, Canada.
  • These games are held every 4 years.
  • Only players from Commonwealth countries participate in these games.
