Rajiv Gauba- Full-time Member of NITI Aayog

Why in news?

• Former Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba has been appointed as the full-time member of NITI Aayog.
• His appointment has come into effect with immediate effect.

Administrative career of Rajiv Gauba

• 1982 batch Jharkhand cadre IAS officer.
• Served as Cabinet Secretary from August 2019 to August 2024.
• Prior to this, he also served as Union Home Secretary and Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development.
• Also served as Chief Secretary of Jharkhand state.

Structure of NITI Aayog:

• Chairman – The Prime Minister of India is the chairman of NITI Aayog.
• Vice-Chairman – Appointed by the Central Government. (Currently: Dr. Suman Beri)
• Full-time Members – NITI Aayog has four full-time members:
  • Dr. Vijay Kumar Saraswat
  • Prof. Ramesh Chand
  • Dr. Vinod Paul
  • Rajiv Gauba (newly appointed member)
• Part-time members – Leading academicians, researchers and experts are included in it.
• Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – Appointed by the Central Government. (Currently: B.V.R. Subrahmanyam)
• Special invitee members – Special policy experts are invited by the government.
• Governing Council –
  • Chief Ministers of all states
  • Lieutenant Governors of Union Territories
  • Some ministers of the Central Government
