• The 100-day health agenda of the Government of India includes the rollout of the digital platform U-WIN portal for the entire country. Currently, this portal is implemented on the lines of a pilot project in 64 districts of the country.
  • During the interim budget for the year 2024-2025, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had emphasized on the early rollout of the U-WIN platform to manage vaccination and support Mission Indradhanush.

About U-WIN Portal

• U-WIN is an advanced digital platform modelled on the lines of the COVID-19 vaccine management system Co-WIN.
• The platform is part of India’s Universal Immunization Programme (UIP), which comes under the Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) programme of the National Health Mission (NHM).

Key Features of U-WIN Portal

• Electronic Registration: The portal covers all vaccination schedules for pregnant women and children (up to the age of six years), ensuring complete and accurate records.
• Digital Vaccination Certificate: It provides QR-based, digitally verifiable e-vaccination certificates accessible by citizens at any time.
• Self-Registration and Scheduling: Citizens can self-register, select vaccination centres and schedule appointments through the U-WIN web portal or mobile app.
• Making Universal Immunization Accessible: With the digitization of the vaccination system, vaccination services can be availed anywhere in the country in scheduled vaccination sessions.
• Automated Alerts: The portal system sends SMS alerts for registration confirmation, dose management, and upcoming dose reminders.
• Frontline Worker Support: It allows frontline workers to digitally record vaccination events, facilitating accurate and easy record maintenance.
• Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) Identity Card: It is an aid in generating ABHA identity card for comprehensive health record maintenance.
• Integrated with eVIN platform: Efforts are also being made to integrate U-VIN with the existing eVIN platform of the Government for inventory management.
  • eVIN tracks all vaccine doses from large central stores to every vaccination site in the country.
  • It also monitors, in real time, the temperature and humidity of the vaccine doses using sensors attached to each freezer.
• Reducing the number of children with “zero dose”: The name-based tracking mechanism aims to ensure that no child is missed out on vaccination, especially benefiting migrant populations.
  • A child is considered fully immunized when he/she has received all the required vaccines as per the National Immunization Schedule by the age of one year.
  • This portal is an important step towards reducing the number of children with zero doses by half by 2030.
